I stayed over at Grandmas during a rainy weekend in the fall. We weren’t going to go anywhere anyway. You’d be an idiot to want to leave this house. Everyone was relaxing on a Saturday afternoon reading books from grandma’s library that you haven’t seen since you were at your grandma’s house. After a while, I realized Grandma had turned on Spotify. My first thought was oh great there is Internet here. Then I just let the music be background noise as I read. Until I heard the radio stations’ call letters. This was not Spotify. This wasn’t a CD. This was the literal radio from 1985! I threw down that book and I never ran so fast in my life to the kitchen. Grandma had the radio on-the radio! The actual honest to God radio from 1985!
With everything else in this house that should not have surprised me. I just wasn’t expecting to hear the actual radio show that I remember listening to in person from 1985.
I hope I’m not spoiling anything by revealing that, but wow! Of all of the things I was never expecting to see when I entered this home the literal radio from 1985 would be top three.
If you haven’t stayed here yet, what the heck are you waiting for? Get over here! Do whatever you have to do just get here! Your soul and the very marrow of your bones needs this place.

Third Visit Summary-When you arrive here, everyone involved agrees to play a game. To play specific roles, to suspend disbelief and for a weekend, everyone is allowed to play house all weekend long except this time instead of pretending to be the mom you get to pretend to be the kid. And that everyone is related to you and you know everyone in this house, even though you’ve never met any of the people in this house before.
Suddenly the strangers that you met walking up to the door are now your cousins that you just haven’t seen in a while, and the woman who answers the door and squeezes the life out of you with a hug like she hasn’t seen you in years is another long lost relative.
You are expected to act like you know this place. And you do know it. You know where the glasses are and where the towels are and where the vacuum cleaner is.
You don’t need to worry about money here. You don’t even need an alarm because either Grandma’s cooking or the sound of cartoons is going to wake you up every morning and you don’t want to miss a minute of it.

The Punky Brewster bedroom. Or should I say the new version of the Punky Brewster bedroom. It was already the most popular room to stay in in the whole house. I didn’t think it could get better. But it’s better now. I always stay in that room when I can. And this time nobody warned me what I was going to see when I opened the door. I started scream crying. that show meant everything to me as a kid in the system, and I knew immediately which family member had made this possible. It is a complete recreation of the show. And I say that as someone who literally lived for that show as a child.
I asked grandma if I could call the family member I suspected was responsible for this act of perfection and love. I got her on the phone, thanked her profusely and then asked her if she would like to have a sleepover in the room with me. I don’t know why I said that. I think it was my inner child. But that woman has so much love in her heart. She dropped whatever plans she might’ve had for that night and obligations with family, and she drove over here and had a slumber party with me in the Punky Brewster bedroom.

When I walked up to the house, I could see three other grown women in the living room window, jumping up and down and squealing with excitement. When they saw me, they ran to the door and opened it and hugged me like we were the oldest and best of friends. They were so excited to see me,like they knew me. And I admit it felt great to be wanted. But these were just the other ladies who had also booked a stay. They filled me in on how great the place was and carried my suitcase to my room before Grandma even had a chance to say hello . That was the favorite part of my visit. And the visit itself was more that I could’ve ever dreamed. Do whatever you need to do to get a chance to stay at this place. You will never regret it.
